Crossbones Graveyard

Near London Bridge there are a couple of gates that are covered in ribbons and trinkets. Despite the fact they're kind of out of the way, I've passed them several times, and always wondered what the story was. I never bothered to read the plaque until recently. They are a kind of shrine, on the site of an old graveyard that was set aside for 'single woman', or 'winchester geese'. It later became a paupers graveyard.
